Kyle Busch: Driver Of The No. 5 Carquest/kellogg’s Impala SS: (On The First Race Of The Chase. ) “This is going to be an important race for everyone in the Chase. Those 10 bonus points we’ve earned (from the team’s win at Bristol Motor Speedway) are going to mean a lot as we get through the first few weeks. Every point and every position counts from here on out. Starting off on the right foot will set the tone for the next 10 races. “

BUSCH: (On What He Learned From Last Year’s Chase. ) “The most important thing we learned is that we need to finish every lap. Right off the bat last year in this race (New Hampshire), we wrecked on lap two. It was a horrible way to start off the Chase. After that, there were only two races out of the 10 where we didn’t have problems. So if we can keep the issues to a minimum, then we’ll probably be all right. We’ve run well all year long so we just need to keep that going. “

BUSCH: (ON HIS GOAL FOR THE CHASE. ) “Obviously, we want to win it all for Hendrick Motorsports, Kellogg’s and CARQUEST. We need to come out of the box strong and have some strong runs in both the Impala SS and the Monte Carlo on the intermediate tracks. We’ve been struggling a little in the Car of Tomorrow races so we need to step up our game on some things. “

BUSCH: (ON FIVE OF THE NEXT 10 RACES BEING CAR OF TOMORROW RACES. ) “It’s going to be pretty tough. I really didn’t realize that until we ran the way we did at Richmond. For some reason, these cars are so hard to get dialed in and drive sometimes, I just don’t know what to tell Alan (Gustafson). I know we will do well in the Monte Carlo races—I’m just nervous about the Impala ones. I know we have the team and the resources, but these cars are just still a work in progress. “

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 CARQUEST/KELLOGG’S IMPALA SS: (ON HIS GOALS OVER THE NEXT 10 WEEKS. ) “We want the NEXTEL Cup. Besides that, my goal as a crew chief is to keep the team on task. We’ve had good pit stops and great cars week in and week out. Now that the points are reset, running well is a must. For instance, in California we had the race won all night long—we just didn’t win it at the end. That’s our fault for not capitalizing on what we had. Consistency is another thing—we need to remain consistent. As long as we don’t freeze up over the next few weeks, I think we should be in the position to win it at Homestead. In my eyes, no other team has been as much of a threat as we have been each week. The Chase should be no different. “

LAS VEGAS MEETS NEW YORK: As one of 12 elite drivers to qualify for the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup, Kyle Busch will participate in this week’s NASCAR media blitz in New York City. The 22-year-old Las Vegas native will be a guest on “The David Letterman Show” and “The Early Show, “ both on CBS, and will also appear at ESPN Zone in Times Square before heading to New Hampshire International Speedway.

ONE FOR THE MONEY: Busch and the No. 5 team are already the proud owners of one NEXTEL Cup trophy from NHIS. On July 16, 2006, Busch started the 300-mile event from the fourth position, led 107 laps and crossed the finish line first to score his third career NEXTEL Cup victory. As a rookie in 2005, Busch earned a fourth-place finish there.

HOMETOWN RACE: There are two members of the No. 5 Kellogg’s/CARQUEST team who call New Hampshire International Speedway their “home” track. Front-tire changer D. J. Richardson, 38, hails from Leomister, Mass., roughly 85 miles south of Loudon, N.H. Richardson has been a member of the team since 2006, and formerly competed as a driver in the ARCA Se ries. Jackman Rick Pigeon grew up in the town of Fairfax, Vt., located approximately 185 miles north of New Hampshire International Speedway. Pigeon, 32, has worked at Hendrick Motorsports for seven years.

DOUBLE DUTY: With the NASCAR Busch Series on hiatus this weekend, Busch will have the opportunity to drive the No. 51 Chevy Silverado for Billy Ballew Motorsports in the 200-mile NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event on Saturday afternoon. Busch competed in the past two truck races at NHIS, earning seventh- and third-place finishes, respectively. He has paced 51 NCTS laps at the half-mile track.

MAIDEN VOYAGE OF ‘464’: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 464 for this weekend’s NEXTEL Cup event in New Hampshire. Sunday will mark the first race for this particular Chevrolet Impala SS, which was tested at the Milwaukee Mile earlier this month.
